Mary Mercer, 66, of Portland, Michigan, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2025, after a courageous battle with ALS.
Born on June 27, 1959, in St. Louis, Missouri, Mary was known for her warm heart, quiet strength, and deep love for her family. She found joy in cooking for her loved ones and was especially passionate about decorating for the holidays — her home was always filled with warmth, laughter, and festive spirit.
Mary was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Clyde and Norma Mercer, and her brother, Daniel Mercer. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Constance Maxwell, and son‑in‑law, Jon Maxwell; her cherished grandson, Elliot Maxwell; her siblings, Andy (Sandie), Betty (Dan) and Patricia; as well as many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews who will miss her deeply.
Mary’s family finds comfort in knowing that her battle is over and that she is now at peace. Her memory will live on in the meals she lovingly prepared, the traditions she helped create, and the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. A burial will take place at Christian Memorial Gardens East in Peck, Michigan.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Susan Mast ALS Foundation, whose support was invaluable during Mary’s illness. You can contribute online here: https://www.susanmastals.org/donation/
