Mary Jo Dobias

Mary Jo Dobias passed away peacefully on July 22, 2025, at age 78. Born August 7, 1946, to Ernest and Marguerite Witham she grew up in the Mt. Pleasant area. 

She married the love of her life, George Dobias Sr in 1964 and together they raised their boys, George II and John, remaining in Mt. Pleasant and cheering them on in baseball and football for many years - they never missed a game.  In her early years, Mary’s full-time job was her family. They were married for 25 years before he passed away. 

Following the loss of her husband in 1989 she devoted many years to employment in retail including Kroger, Meijer, and Walmart. She enjoyed viewing western films, had a keen interest in birdwatching, and found pleasure in assembling puzzles. Mary valued time spent with family and friends above all else, cherishing those relationships deeply.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, George Sr.; her brothers, Gene Barnhart, Sherm Nickelsen and David Witham. She is survived by her sons, George II (Donna) of Hudsonville and John (Amber) of lonia; her grandchildren, George (Jordan) and Jessica and her great-granddaughters, Jolene and Josie.

A private graveside memorial honoring Mary’s life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to Lehman Funeral Homes.  Online condolences may be made at www.lehmanfuneralhomes.com.
