Mary Lou Tannery Obituary

Mary Lou Tannery, of Portland, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away on January 31, 2024 at the age of 79. She was born in Ionia County on February 19, 1944, the daughter of Earnest and Velma (Davids) Morris.

Mary Lou was a graduate of Portland High School, Class of 1962, a devoted member of the Portland United Methodist Church, and was active with the Portland Civic Players at the Portland Theater for many years. She was an avid scrapbooker and card maker, she crafted many beautiful pieces over the years which will be cherished forever. Her love for games was evident in the countless hours spent playing board games, Euchre, and computer games with her husband, John. Mary Lou found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She enjoyed sipping her coffee while staying connected with friends and family through Facebook. Her greatest joy in life was her family. She treasured her time spent with them, especially the times spent camping up north in Au Gres. Mary Lou will be missed by many.

Preceding Mary Lou in death are her parents, Earnest and Velma Morris; brother, Howard Morris; sister, Betty Morris; and son-in-law, Jim Sivyer. Surviving are her beloved husband of 59 years, John Tannery; children, Linda Sivyer, Jeff (Linette) Tannery, Susie (Marty Hollern) Tannery, and Keith (Shawna) Tannery; grandchildren, Cody (Shannon) Sivyer, Owen (McKenna Kiley-Sipperly) Goodman, Martin (Curston) Hollern, and Megan Hollern; great-granddaughter, Ellie Sivyer; brother, Harold (Georgia) Morris; special friends, Jim and Regina Lemmon; and several other special friends in the “gang”.

A Memorial Service will be officiated by Pastor Keith Treman at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 9, 2024 at the Portland United Methodist Church, 310 E. Bridge Street, Portland. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions made be made to Ellie's college fund in honor of Great Grandma Tannery.
