Michael Spitzley Obituary

Life’s #1 Fan was reunited back home with his parents Leon and Mary (Schmitt) Spitzley on January 19, 2021.

Michael was born October 10, 1958, with the gift of being incapable of making a bad decision (with the possible exception of sneaking treats when out of Mom’s view). The rest of us are handicapped with poor choices, but he loved us all regardless.

Whether he was dancing, listening to music, cheering at sporting events, and of course making popcorn for all or anything else that struck his fancy, he was ALL in!

He loved his Mother above all, and if there was one person he respected and wanted to please, it was her. Rest assured, Michael, you never disappointed. Welcome home!

Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Mary and brothers-in-law, Leon "Buddy" Pung and Eugene Gross. He is survived by his brothers and sisters: John, Mary Lee (Mark) Schafer, Marvin (Jeanette), Dorothy Pung, Ron (Teresa), Fr Denis, Geri Gross, Stella (Vern) Pung, Delbert (Sue), Francis (Linda), Br Bernie SVD, Mark (Sheryl), Rita (Mike) Owen, Luke (Shelly); MANY nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and his special bowling buddy, Markie Nurenberg.

On behalf of the entire Spitzley family, we want to thank all the caregivers that Michael had through this final journey. It started with Rainbow Homes, then Medilodge of Lansing and finally Carlisle Home and Sparrow Hospital and Hospice. All of you were Michael’s heroes, and for that we are truly grateful.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Michigan Special Olympics 160 68th St. SW, Grand Rapids, MI 49548 or Rainbow Homes, 2111 Adelpha Ave., Apt. B, Holt, MI 48842

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Michael's brother, Fr. Denis R. Spitzley and Fr. Eric Weber at 1:30 p.m. Monday, January 25, 2021 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Westphalia.
