Michelle "Shelly" D. Martin

Michelle "Shelly" Martin, 61, of Portland, passed away on January 28, 2025. Shelly was born on June 8, 1963 to Richard Stemler and Dixie Broskey in Lansing, Michigan.

After Shelly graduated from Portland Public Schools, she did what she loved most, running an in-home daycare. She ended her career with Portland Public School as a bus aide for children with disabilities.

She married her high school sweetheart, David “Dave” Martin on August 3, 1985. Shelly was a family person and was always trying to get everyone together. She enjoyed sewing, crafting, shopping, and any type of game. Most recently, she became a camping guru and she spent her summers traveling in their family camper. She loved doing anything and everything for her kids and grandkids.

Shelly is survived by her spouse, Dave Martin, children, Stefanie Sweiringa, Patrick (Cassie) Martin, and Aaron (Claire) Martin, grandchildren, Emma and Naomi Sweiringa, Russell and Theodore Martin, Wyatt and Willow Martin and her brothers Tim (Tammy) Stemler, Mike (late Terri) Stemler.

She is proceeded in death by her mother, Dixie Broskey, stepfather, Mike Broskey and son Cory Martin.

Services will be held at Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E Bridge St, Portland, MI 48875, on Wednesday, February 5, 2025. Visitation will be from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m., and a small remembrance service from 4:00 – 5:00 p.m. Online condolences may be made at www.lehmanfuneralhomes.com.
