Nan Wrisley, of Okemos, Michigan, born September 3, 1936 in Eaton County, passed gracefully from the warm embrace of her family and friends the evening of October 23, 2021 at the age of 85.
As a lifelong nature enthusiast, Nan worked her way through the ranks to become an executive director for the department of Waste Reduction for the State of Michigan and proceeded to volunteer at the Nature Conservancy for 28 years after her retirement. When she was not volunteering, she loved being in the woods hiking, learning about the plants and animals she encountered and of course, befriending all of the dogs she met out on the trails. She also very much enjoyed spending time with family and friends, picking berries, and keeping the deer out of her flower garden.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Myrtle and Merle Wrisley and her sisters, Jeanne Petrie, Una (Nony) Ralston, and Alice (Scott) Wright. Surviving are her sisters, Diane Starkweather and Mary Wheeler; her brother, Nyal Conklin; her daughters, Tracy Merrill, Dana Merrill, and Shawna Merrill; and her seven grandchildren.
May the work and love she put out into this world never be forgotten.
A visitation take place from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, October 29, 2021 at the Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge Street, Portland. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Nature Conservancy or St. Vincent DePaul in honor of Nan. Online condolences may be made at www.lehmanfuneralhomes.com.
