Nola "Dimples" Jean Slocum

Nola "Dimples" Jean Slocum, age 80, passed away January 16, 2023 after her courageous battle with Breast Cancer that had metastized to her bones. She was born on February 10, 1942 and was married to James Slocum for a total of 57 years. They had first married August 4, 1961, and divorced February 17, 1977, to remarry the second time March 20, 1982. Dimples was a strong, beautiful, and a very independent woman. She loved spending time with family and friends whenever possible. Her contagious smile with her dimples and playful sense of humor will be remembered by all. She loved the outdoors which included camping, fishing, and kayaking. She absolutely loved playing horse shoes and was very good at it however, had to give it up in more recent years. Dimples also loved playing cards. There wasn't a card game she hadn't played. She always created her own "house rules" or different ways to play a game. Her favorite games were cribbage, euchre, and crazy eights. She also loved music, shopping, and a new found love of trips to the casino. She took every opportunity to go wherever you would take her, especially any restaurants! Bob Evans lost a great faithful customer! Dimples was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Isabell (St. Clair) Gurnee and siblings Judy Kester and Ronald "Ronnie" Gurnee. Surviving are siblings, Robert "Butch" Gurnee Jr, Carolyn Lindsey, and Doug (Diane) Gurnee. In addition to her husband James Slocum, are her daughters Cheryl Morgan, Rhonda (Chuck) Bannerman, and Marci (Donnie) Walters and son Jerry (Miriam) Slocum. She had 12 grand kids and 11 great grand kids. Dimples was loved and adored by many, always offering a hug and a smile. She was a trooper to the end as she never let cancer or treatments keep her from any opportunities and did everything she possibly could. We hope you will join us with a Celebration of Life for her, to be held this summer.  Location, date, and time will be shared once finalized.
