Ok-Sook Park Obituary

Ok-Sook Park, passed away at home surrounded by loved ones on January 18, 2024, at the age of 62. Ok-Sook was born on April 23, 1961, in Buan, South Korea, to Gwiyang Park and Imsun An. A beacon of positivity, Ok-Sook was known for her selfless nature and unwavering love for her family. She brought sunshine into the lives of those around her, leaving an indelible mark on everyone she encountered.

Ok-Sook dedicated her life to education, achieving significant academic milestones along the way. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from Woosuk University in South Korea, followed by a Master’s degree from Sookmyung Women’s University, also in South Korea. Her academic journey culminated in a Ph.D. from Michigan State University.

Passionate about teaching Korean studies, Ok-Sook developed the Korean Program at Michigan State University, where she also created and implemented online placement testing for the Korean Language Program. Ok-Sook served as the Coordinator of the Korean Program at both the University of Michigan and Michigan State University. Her dedication and commitment were instrumental in the establishment of Korean as a minor and the hopeful upcoming recognition of Korean as a major at MSU. Ok-Sook's legacy extends beyond her professional achievements; she will be remembered for her kindness, compassion, and the joy she brought into the lives of those fortunate enough to know her.

Preceding Ok-Sook in death are her parents, Gwiyang Park and Imsun An and brother, Iljin Park. Surviving are her beloved husband of 21 years, Steve Moyer; her sisters, Okhie (Jeongwon Kang) Bak and Ok Soon (Reimund Lechner) Park; and her brother, Seunghae (Seonghee Choi) Park.
