Paget was born in Ionia, Michigan, the daughter of Jim and JoAnne Seymour. She attended SS. Peter and Paul Catholic School through eighth grade and graduated from Ionia High School in 1966. Paget enrolled at Ferris State College (now University) and later completed her bachelor’s degree in psychology at Aquinas College.
Paget was blessed with a daughter she named Gretchen who later became Theresa after she bravely released her for adoption. They were reunited in 1989, and Theresa – along with her growing family, became a wonderful part of Paget’s life and legacy.
In 1967, Paget married Colan “Cork” Helman. They had two beloved children, A.J. and Aaron (“Bub”). Together, they raised their family and purchased, then operated, Ionia Welding.
For over a decade, Paget worked in the family business before becoming the Site Coordinator for Montcalm Community College at the Ionia Center.
She was known for having a keen sense of style, not only with fashion and decor, but also with cherished photos and memorabilia, arranging it all with great care. And if music was playin’, she’d be swayin’! Paget loved to dance, almost as much as she loved time with family! When these – her two greatest passions – came together, she was in Heaven … and now has a glimpse of exactly what that means.
Paget was pre-deceased by her parents, son-in-law Keith Miller, sister-in-law Diane Seymour, and brother-in-law Joe Dent.
She is survived by her brother Jim Seymour and sister Betsy Dent; daughter Theresa Wendling-Miller Giacalone (Rich), son A.J. Helman (grandpuppy Jock), and son Bub (Amanda) Helman; grandchildren Isabel and Ginger Helman, Noelle Miller Turgeon (Ben), Casey Miller (Josh), Christian Miller (Adeline), Hannah, Veronica, and Jeremiah Miller; great-grandchildren Cameron, Natalie, and Claire Turgeon; nephews Jas Seymour (Jenny), Jay Miller (Brittney), Jordan Miller (Libby), and great-nephew Marshall Miller; and very special friend, Phil Hamstra, whom the family wishes to acknowledge for his tender accompaniment of Paget during her challenging final years.
Arrangements by Lehman Funeral Homes, Ionia, Michigan. The family and close friends will be gathering for a celebration of Paget’s life on January 10, 2026, 2-5pm at the Ionia County Fishing and Hunting Club located at Bertha Brock Park, 2311 Bluewater Highway, Ionia, Michigan.
