Rita S. Chamberlain

Rita S. (Koenigsknecht) Chamberlain of Portland, age 74, beloved wife, devoted mother, and grandmother, passed away on Monday, April 21, 2025 surrounded by her family. 

Rita was born on May 3, 1950, in St Johns, MI, the daughter of Arnold Koenigsknecht and Loretta (Hengesbach). Rita married Michael Chamberlain of Portland on November 8, 1975. They were happily married and devoted to each other for 49 years.  Rita was a faithful Catholic first and foremost. She passed on this strong legacy of faith to her 4 children and 13 grandchildren. Rita was a homemaker. She enjoyed reading and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She delighted in trips to Mackinaw and rides with Michael to view fall colors. She cherished the Christmas season and decorating her home for holidays. 

Surviving Rita are her beloved husband, Michael Chamberlain; sons, Daniel Chamberlain of Pass Christian, MS and John Chamberlain of Portland; Jennifer (Daniel) Barbosa of Palm Beach Gardens, FL and Julie (Nick) LaVoy of Lansing; 13 grandchildren; siblings, James W. (Cherie) Koenigsknecht of Mulliken, Lawrence L. Koenigsknecht of Fowler,  Mary (Charles) McCausey of Fowler, Agnes (Gene) Goerge of Fowler, Geralyn (Keith) Fedewa of Westphalia, and Jane Rademacher of Lansing; Chamberlain in-laws, Patricia (James) Glossi, Janice Chamberlain, Thomas Chamberlain, and Donald (Kathleen) Chamberlain. Preceding Rita in death are her parents, Arnold and Loretta Koenigskencht; in-laws George and Odelia Chamberlain; daughter-in-law, Andrea Chamberlain; brother-in-law, Francis Chamberlain; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Sias and Dianne Chamberlain; and nephew Timothy Chamberlain.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Monday, April 28, 2025 from 6-8 p.m. with the rosary being prayed at 7:30 p.m. at the Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge Street, Portland.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Steve Mattson at 12:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 29, 2025 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Portland. Rite of Committal will follow at Portland Cemetery. A luncheon will be held at the Portland V.F.W. Post #4090. Online condolences may be made at www.lehmanfuneralhomes.com.
