Robert Leonard Schmitt

Robert Leonard Schmitt, age 86, of Westphalia, passed away on Thursday, July 22, 2021 surrounded by his family. He was born April 22, 1935 in Dallas Township the son of George and Marian (Koenigsknecht) Schmitt. Bob was a member of St. Mary’s Church, retired from G.M., was a farmer and enjoyed painting farm equipment and homes. He loved spending quality time with his family going on vacations and having gatherings and he also enjoyed playing cards with his friends. Bob also loved watching his kids and now grandkids in their extra curricular activities. He was a preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jerome Schmitt, Leon (Neva) Schmitt, Joseph (Helen) Schmitt, and John Schmitt; sisters, Helen Krouse, Mary Ann (Theron) Allen; brothers-in-law, Gerald Patterson and Philip Spitzley; father and mother-in-law, Harold and Margaret Fedewa. Surviving are his beloved wife 61 years, Mary Ann (Simon) Schmitt; children, Robert (Karen) Schmitt, Glen (Kathy) Schmitt, Dale (Stacy) Schmitt, Scott (Beverly) Schmitt, Doug (Annette) Schmitt and Cindy (Glen) Thelen; 18 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; brother, Reynold (Florence) Schmitt; sisters, Theresa Patterson and Germaine Schmitt; sisters-in-law, Maria Schmitt and Sandra Spitzley; many nieces and nephews. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Eric Weber at 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 26, 2021 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Westphalia. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2-8 p.m., Sunday at the St. Mary’s Funeral Chapel, 210 N. Westphalia St. The rosary will be prayed at 1:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's School in memory of Bob. Arrangements are entrusted to Lehman Funeral Homes.
