Robert "Bruce" Sexton Obituary

Robert “Bruce” Sexton, of Grand Ledge, passed away on January 7, 2025 at the age of 58. He was born on July 9, 1966 and raised in Oxford, Pennsylvania, the son of Robert and Dawn (Charles) Sexton.

Bruce started his career at General Motors where he made many lifelong friends. In 2000, Bruce transferred to GM in Lansing, Michigan. After 30 years with GM Bruce moved on and met new friends at Tenneco and was finishing his career at Ventra Fowlerville. He really enjoyed this last part of his career working with wonderful people.

Those who knew Bruce knew that, above all things, Bruce loved his family. Bruce faithfully traveled back and forth between Delaware and Michigan several times a year to see his son, Wesley and once his younger children, Jacob and Erika joined the family, they spent every holiday, long weekend and sometimes a short weekend so all his children could be together. Being out east also meant he could spend time with his dad buying and selling guns at the local guns auction. He was known to enjoy a Yeungling or two with his brother, Kevin.

Bruce loved life, whether it was trying a new restaurant, attending a concert, or taking a day trip to a lighthouse, Bruce was in!  He enjoyed trying new, spicy foods and watching the Eagles games with Erika, watching television, especially westerns, Cheers, and Fraser with Jacob, and always trying to beat Wesley at video games.

Bruce was Google before there was Google.  If you ever wondered who played Hoss in Bonanza or who the base player for Loverboy (or any 1980s bands) was, maybe you wondered who played shortstop for the 1980’s World Series Phillies, or (more importantly) if there was ever a better Eagles running back than Barkley - Bruce could tell you without hesitating. Westerns, Music, and Philly Sports - he knew too much about all of them, and we love him for that.

He will forever be remembered as a great friend and coworker, a loving and adoring husband, a kind and considerate son, brother, and uncle and as the proudest and most amazing dad.

Preceding Bruce in death is his mother, Dawn Sexton. Left to cherish his legacy are his loving wife, Lisa (Boley) Sexton; children, Wesley, Jacob, and Erika; father, Robert E. Sexton; brother, Kevin (wife, Kelly) Sexton; several brothers and sisters-in-law; and many special nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Saturday, January 18, 2025 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Lehman Funeral Home, 220 Rich Street, Ionia. Refreshments will be available at Fabiano’s Corner Landing, 128 Grand River Ave, Ionia, where we will celebrate Bruce’s favorite team, the Philadelphia Eagles.  Bruce was really looking forward to the Eagles making it to the Super Bowl, so everyone is encouraged to wear any Eagles paraphanalia or at least something green.
