Robert "Wally" F. Maynard

Robert Fredrick “Wally” Maynard, age 77, of Portland, passed away on May 11, 2022. He was born on May 19, 1944 in Ionia, the son of Cecil and Ruth (Patterson) Maynard.

He graduated from SS Peter & Paul School in Ionia and went on to join the U.S. Air Force where he served for four years at Wurtsmith Air Force Base in Oscoda, Michigan. During this time he married Ellen Meyers of Lake Odessa. They raised two sons, Scott and Sean Maynard, both of Portland.

He retired from TRW in Portland and after his retirement he drove cars for Berger Motor Sales in Ionia.

He loved spending time with the love of his life, his wife, Ellen, his children and grandchildren, Cole, Sawyer, Nick, and Drew. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and playing golf.  

Preceding him in death are his parents, Cecil and Ruth Maynard; brother, William Maynard; sister, Marjorie Maynard Seelye; his in-laws, Homer and June Meyers; brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Linda Carroll; and brother-in-law, Norm Hilts.

He is survived by his wife, Ellen; sons, Scott (Carrie) Maynard and Sean (Heather) Maynard; grandsons, Cole and Sawyer Maynard and Drew and Nick Maynard; sister-in-law, Suzanne Hilt; brothers-in-law, Bret (Susan) Meyers and Eric Meyers; sister-in-law, Bonnie Maynard (Dan) Ferguson; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

The Funeral Service will be celebrated on Bob’s birthday, May 19, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Robert Beckett officiating at the Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge Street, Portland. Interment will follow in Portland Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral chapel. Online condolences may be made at www.lehmanfuneralhomes.com.
