Roberta Jean Briggs

Roberta Jean Briggs, 78, of Ionia, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on June 15, 2022 after a long battle with cancer. She was born on September 20, 1943, the daughter of Edward and Viola (Lietzke) Judson. Roberta was a former coach of the Ionia High School Bowling team and she was a proud member of the Ionia Women’s Bowling Hall of Fame. She worked for Aetna Life and Casualty for more than 30 years and was a former SR Regeant, Ionia Moose Lodge. In her free time, Roberta was an avid golfer and she enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, who meant the absolute world to her. Roberta was married to the love of her life, Russell Briggs for 55 wonderful years. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Ron Judson and Richard Judson

She is survived by her loving husband, Russell D. Briggs; daughter, Robin Renee Briggs; step-daughters, Lisa (Richard) Ostrander, LeAnne Briggs, and Laurie (John) Brodberg; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Ruth (Charles) Kennedy; sisters-in-law, Patty Judson and Jackie Judson; and many special nieces. Also surviving are her very special friends, who turned into family, Ronald (Sallie) Possehn and special care takers, Megan McGowan, JoAnne Hoffman and Dee Thayer. Preceding Roberta in death are her parents and brothers, Ron Judson and Richard Judson

The Funeral Service will be officiated by Mr. Peter McGowan at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at the Lehman Funeral Home, 220 Rich Street, Ionia. Interment will follow at Easton Township Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral chapel.
