Rose H. Schafer

Rose H. Schafer, Westphalia, MI, age 92, passed away peacefully the afternoon of Saturday, April 4, 2026 surrounded by family. She was beloved by her family and will be greatly missed.

Rose was born on July 20, 1933 in Westphalia to Louis Klein and Dora Fedewa. She was united in marriage to Stanley Schafer on May 14, 1955 – celebrating her 70th wedding anniversary last spring – together having four children: Stephen, Daniel, Roy, and Dean. Rose was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Catholic Order of Foresters and Christian Mothers. She was on the St. Mary’s church cleaning crew for 50 years and active in the Westphalia Historical Society for many years. Rose enjoyed traveling, spending time with family, and vegetable and flower gardening (with flowers gaining ground over vegetables in the later years).

Rose is preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Louis (Louise) Klein, Anthony Klein, Richard (Gladys) Klein, Herman Klein, infant sister Anna Klein, Leo (Phyllis) Klein, Stanley (Therese) Klein; sister-in-law Janet Klein, and brother-in-law Richard Schneider.

She is survived by her husband, Stanley; children Stephen (Linda) Schafer, Daniel (Robin) Schafer, Roy (Jolynn) Schafer, and Dean Schafer; 10 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren; siblings, Clarence Klein, Helen Schneider, Mary Ann (Edward) George, and Mark (Kay) Klein; sister-in-law Alice Klein.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Eric Weber at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 8, 2026 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., with a rosary being prayed at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 7, 2026 at the St. Mary’s Funeral Chapel, 210 N. Westphalia St., Westphalia.
