Sandra Bommer Obituary

Sandra (Sandi) Helen Bommer, 61, passed away on January 3, 2026, in Lansing, Michigan, the city where she was born and resided her entire life. She loved her house.

Born on November 11, 1964, in Lansing, Sandi was the daughter of Sharon and Donald Bommer. She attended Michigan School for the Deaf. Her academic journey led her to Gallaudet University, a place known for its commitment to the Deaf community and higher learning. Sandi taught several years at Lansing Community College as a teacher to those students wanting to learn the skill of an American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter. This occupation was extremely important to her and the deaf community and she never missed an opportunity to be an activist for the legal rights of deaf people to have an interpreter provided them, especially for medical procedures. Sandi enjoyed doing crafts, clay pottery, watching Korean movies and eating good food, especially with her friends. She also loved traveling. Sandi also cared very much for the Deaf community.

Her memory lives on in the hearts of her stepmother Carol Bommer, Her sister, Althea (Steven) Ritter and brother, Eric (Lori) Bommer, half-brother Mike (Joey) Bommer and half-sister Donna Bommer.

Her many nieces and nephews: Israel (Su) Ritter, Nate (Charlene) Ritter, Stephanie Wilkerson, James Ritter, Steven Jr. (Emily) Ritter, Heather (Patrick) Wettach, Micah Ritter, Jared (Melinda) Ritter, Devon Bommer, Seth Bommer, Adrianne (Austin) McAdoo, and Michael (Melissa) Bommer; great-nieces and great-nephews: Emily (Devon) Shepherd, Genevieve Spagnuolo, Mattie Collins, Austin Jr. (Kaylyn) McAdoo, David (Destiny) McAdoo, Ryan McAdoo, Emma Bommer, Hannes Ritter, Hank Ritter and great great nephew: Miles Shepherd.

Sandi was preceded in death by her parents, Sharon (Rue) and Donald Bommer and her brother, Steve Bommer.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. The date and location will be shared with family and friends once finalized. May Sandi’s memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved her. Online condolences may be made www.lehmanfuneralhomes.com.
