Sandra Kay Meyers

Sandra Kay Meyers, age 79, passed away on Wednesday, August 13, 2025. She was born on July 29, 1946, in Portland, the daughter of Harold and Margaret (Fedewa) Fernholz. Sandra was a devoted member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Sandra enjoyed sewing and quilting, as well as visits to the casino. In recent years, she found enjoyment in playing euchre on Thursdays alongside members of the Sherwood Forest Community. Her greatest love was her family. She dedicated her life to her husband, children, and grandchildren, offering support in many ways—from mending clothes and preparing meals to attending their events.

She worked at the Chrysler Trim Plant, Charlotte Chair Co. and after receiving her degree at Montcalm Community College went to work at the U.S.D.A. in Ionia, assisting area farmers with their crop financial needs. Sandra was married her high school sweetheart, Herbert Loucks on March 24, 1967, and he was killed in action on September 19, 1967, in Vietnam. She married Joseph Meyers on August 14, 1971, and they shared 51 years together.

Sandra is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Joseph. Surviving are her sons, Jason (Karen) Meyers and Shawn (Christi) Meyers; grandchildren, Anthony, Hunter, Carter (fiancée, Abby), Gabrielle, and Maxwell; siblings, Paul (Elizabeth) Fernholz, Dolores Schmitt, and Jan (James) Maynard; in-laws, Elaine Ewing, Michael (Angie) Meyers, Sue Luna, and Theresa Babinski; in-law’s, Linda Meyers; and many nieces and nephews.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Eugene Batungbacal at 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 18, 2025, at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 434 High Street, Ionia. Rite of Committal will be in Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 17, 2025, with a rosary at 6:30 p.m., at the Lehman Funeral Home, 220 Rich Street, Ionia and at 10:00 a.m. at the church on Monday.
