Susan Marie DenHouten, of Ionia, passed away surrounded by her loving family on February 6, 2026, at the age of 76. She was born on August 24, 1949 in Carson City, the daughter of Otis V. and Dorothy J. (Nielsen) Bennett. Susie was a graduate of Ionia High School, Class of 1968. She then went on to spend many years as a dedicated hairdresser, a career she truly loved because it allowed her to help others feel beautiful. Susie enjoyed traveling over the years, embracing new places and experiences, but her greatest joy was always her family. She was truly family-oriented and especially cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren. She was a wonderful cook and was famous for her Sunday dinners — a tradition where her family gathered weekly to share a meal and make countless memories. She will be deeply missed and forever loved by all who knew her.
Preceding Susie in death are her parents, Otis and Dorothy Bennett; brother, Albert Bennett; sister, Mary Bennett; and her beloved husband of 54 years, Gerald DenHouten. Susie leaves behind her children, Tammy (Casey Sigala), Todd (Jennifer) DenHouten, and Jamie (Kristie Bills) DenHouten; grandchildren, Katie, Cody (Mallory), Baily (Leah), Dennis (Zach), and Hunter; and great-granddaughter, Sophia.
