Susanne Helen (Spicer) Smith

Susanne Helen Smith, of Pewamo, passed away May 7, 2025 at the age of 78. She was born August 28, 1946, the daughter of Theron and Helen (Dungerow) Spicer. Sue was a member of the last graduating class of Lyons High School in 1964. She taught 4H and was a Brownie Troop leader for many years. Sue enjoyed knitting and crocheting in her spare time. She lived happily in Pewamo since the 1970’s, she was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and she assisted with the hot lunch program at St. Joseph School while her children were attending there. Sue will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Sue is preceded in death by her husband, Delbert Smith; parents, Theron and Helen Spicer; father and mother-in-law, Reynold and Irene Smith; brothers, Ken Spicer and Thomas Spicer; in-laws, Joyce Thelen, Roy (Arline) Smith, Arlene (Hilary) Schafer, Dennis Smith, Alice Smith, Catherine Smith, and Robert Niell. Surviving Sue are her son, Otto Maclam (Loretta Walker) of Alma; daughters, Roberta (Ken) Curtis of Ionia and Christina Smith of Pewamo; grandchildren, Brittney (Randle) David, Zack Curtis (J. Oceano Meyers), Brandon Smith, Daniel Walker, Dylan Walker (Francesca), and Samantha Walker Knibbs (Dennis); great-grandchildren, Zayden David, Ember David, Mason Hyatt, Dylanna Walker, Cerenity Walker, Mackenzie Walker, Kye Knibbs, Kaylani Knibbs, Kayde Knibbs, Cassie Davis, Aria Davis, Colin Davis, and Bre Davis; siblings, Sharon Niell, Diane Martin, Glen Spicer, and Jack Spicer; in-laws, Judy Thelen, Mary Smith, Pete (Linda) Smith, Wilma Whitehead, and Patricia Smith; and many nieces and nephews.

The Funeral Liturgy will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 13, 2025 at the Lehman Funeral Home, 220 Rich Street, Ionia. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the funeral chapel. Rite of Committal will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Pewamo.
