Suzanne Carol Lantz (May 31, 1950 - June 7, 2024)
The adventurer, sight seer, bird watcher, garden leader, outdoor enthusiast, crafter, “Ama”, volunteer extraordinaire, and more took her last breath on June 7, 2024, surrounded by family and love.
A lifelong resident of Lansing, Sue took great pride in her community. While she held a few careers in her life, her greatest pride and accomplishments were her contributions to the Lansing area through volunteerism. She was PTA president of Attwood Elementary. A lead representative of Creation Station formerly in the basement of Impression-5 where recycled items were given a second life. She was a committed garden leader at both Jolly Grove and Webster Farm Community Gardens, where she served and advocated for refugee populations. Sue also had a heart for the homeless, where she partnered with Cardboard Prophets to meet the many needs they see on a regular basis. Sue was never one to judge, if you had breath in your lungs, she saw value in you, invested in you and tried her best to make sure you felt loved and cared for. For years she served in the diaper bank and was overjoyed when resources merged to combine into what is now the Fretail Store in the Lansing Mall. Her fingerprint can be seen throughout the city and the seeds she has sown are still bearing fruit today.
She was greatly loved, and she loved greatly, her last words were, “Tell everyone that I love them”. Even in her last words she wanted everyone to know they were loved. She will be greatly missed.
Survived by her husband of 54 years, Randy Lantz, her children; James Lantz of Lansing, Karen Wainright (Don) of Bath, Deborah Bough (Nathan) of St. Johns, and Sarah Surline of Lansing. Grandchildren; Michael (Kristen), Kirk, Brandon (Desi), Eric, Hannah, Lindsey, Josh, Isabell, and Jess; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlotte and Arthur Jackson, best friends, Sharon McFern and Sue Bucey, and her son-in-law, Dave Surline.
A memorial service will take place on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at 2pm at Trinity Church on Dunckel, in Lansing . The family will receive guests the hour before.
