Thomas D. Hanline Obituary

Thomas Dwayne Hanline, age 84, passed away peacefully early Tuesday morning, June 23, 2026. He was born on July 9, 1941, in Ionia, he was a lifelong resident. As a young man, he worked for Harry Baily Construction, Karl Russnell Construction and William Morris Construction before starting his own masonry contracting business, serving Ionia and the surrounding areas for 35 years. Tom officially retired at the age of 63.


Tom was a devoted outdoorsman and a member of the Ionia Long Rifles and the National Rifle Association. When he was not working, he could often be found in the woods or on the lake. He was a longtime and active member of 
First Christian Church in Ionia.


Tom was preceded in death by his son, Tal D. Hanline; grandson, Casey T. Hanline and a sister, Beverly Shattuck. He is survived by his wife, Norma Hanline; son, Kurt Hanline; grandson, Seth Hanline; granddaughters, Amy and Alysha; sister, Lori (George) Slater. who lovingly cared for her big brother.


Memorial services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 1, 2026 at First Christian Church, 130 E. Washington St., Ionia. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Ionia. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. For those who wish to honor Tom's memory, donations may be made to First Chrisitian Church of Ionia. Arrangements are entrusted to Lehman Funeral Homes.
