Todd C. Behovitz, a loving father, grandfather, son, brother, neighbor, and friend, was born on September 1, 1967, in Lansing, Michigan, to Mary Ann and Vincent Behovitz.
Todd was handsome, lovable, and charismatic, with a big heart, a gift for connecting with anyone he met, and a vibrant sense of humor. He had a natural ability to make people feel seen, welcomed, and at ease.
He had a lifelong love for the outdoors. As a child and teenager, Todd was incredibly athletic, earning numerous Gus Macker trophies and setting school records as part of the Everett High School State Championship track team. Though if you asked Todd, he’d tell you the trophies came from a garage sale, and the only record he could maybe hold was for a hot-dog-eating contest. He loved riding the Lansing River Trail, walking his dogs, skiing, and canoeing.
Todd possessed remarkable stamina and a strong work ethic from a young age. He will always be remembered as Lansing’s Original Hot Dog Guy. Starting as a teenager, he owned and operated his own hot dog and pretzel carts for many years in downtown Lansing and at Lugnuts Stadium. He took immense pride in his craft; from his homemade, famous pico de gallo to his crave-worthy chili dogs, perfectly paired with Lay’s chips and a cold Faygo. Everything was served from a spotless stand, always with a warm smile and a joke. Behind his stand was where Todd was truly in his element.
Todd’s strong work ethic never wavered; even in his later years, he dedicated nearly a decade to the physically demanding field of concrete work.
Todd was a true food connoisseur, always knowing the best hidden dive spots. He was intelligent and curious, with a love for talk radio and WKAR programming.
Above all, Todd’s greatest legacy is that of a loving father. He was kind, present, and endlessly proud. From playing catch in the yard to making fresh omelets before school to offering a soft, listening ear, he showed up in all the ways that mattered most. He cherished daddy-daughter dinner dates, whether at a favorite local spot or Digiornio pizza and wings kit on the couch. He created lasting memories through countless canoe trips, quiet routines, bike rides, and even the simplest things, like a big glass of water each night before bed. He was gentle, deeply loving, and found his greatest calling and joy in being a Dad.
Todd endured significant hardship and loss throughout his life, yet he never lost his sense of humor or the deep love he carried, especially as a father. He was loved more than he ever fully accepted by his family, friends, neighbors, and even those who only crossed his path briefly. There was a warmth, generosity, and comfort in Todd that left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
He is now reunited with his beloved parents, Mary Ann and Vince, and his dear friends, Doug and Dane, who preceded him in death.
Todd’s legacy lives on through his daughter and son-in-law, Jake and Mari Moyer, and his four grandchildren: Peyton, Reese, Lane, and baby girl Moyer. He is also survived by his siblings, Brian Behovitz, Julie Behovitz, and Vince and Vicki Behovitz, along with his nieces and nephews: Jeremy, Sam, Robert, Noah, Olivia, Holly, and Ben.
Todd’s life will be celebrated with a private blessing and committal with his immediate family. To honor and celebrate Todd’s life, please say a prayer for his peace, eternal rest, and that the love and light of Jesus Christ now fully surround him. And, in true Todd fashion, he’d smile if you enjoyed a Koegel all-beef chili dog on his behalf this summer, sharing a laugh with someone you love, and living your life to the fullest.
