Vaughn M. Carter

Vaughn M. Carter, age 91, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2021. He was born in Hastings, Michigan on July 1, 1929 to Morris and Cecil Carter of Lake Odessa. He married Janet Evans on June 13, 1953 and they shared 67 wonderful years of marriage together. He was employed at General Motors, Eisenhauer Construction, and in 1967 he bought V.M. Carter Livestock Trucking which he operated for 30 years. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Vaughn is survived by his beloved wife, Janet; children, Melanie and Ron Morigeau, Joel and Diane Carter, and Lane and Mary Carter; 7 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; sisters, Marcia Roth, Eleanor Patrick and one brother, Merval Carter, who precedes him in death; and many nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at the First Congregational Church, Portland. Memorial contributions may be made to First Congregational Church or Ionia Area Hospice in memory of Vaughn.
