William “Bill” John Halfman, age 70, of Pewamo passed away peacefully on Monday, November 1, 2021. A loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, he was born on August 17, 1951 in St. Johns, the son of Gerald and Margaret (Kohn) Halfman. Bill was a devoted member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Pewamo, the Catholic Order of Foresters, and the Knights of Columbus. He was the president of the 21 Club where they hosted many sock hops and chicken dinners over the years. Bill retired from TRW after 38 years of service, then went on to work at his brother’s dairy farm for around 10 years. Bill reveled in the great outdoors, he especially enjoyed deer hunting, turkey hunting, fishing, and gardening.
Preceding Bill in death are his parents and in-laws, Annette Bierstetel, Judy Bierstetel, Harry Hersch, and Bert Hersch. Left to cherish Bill’s memory is his beloved wife of 45 years, Shirley Bierstetel-Halfman; daughter, Jessi (Elton) Ables; son, Tony (Lisa) Halfman; grandchildren, Kendra and Landon Ables and Avery and Emma Halfman; brothers, Dick (Terri) Halfman, Ken (Sue) Halfman, Tim (Mary Jo) Halfman, Dave (Cindy) Halfman, and Kevin (Brenda) Halfman; in-laws, Leon Bierstetel, Dave Bierstetel, Monica Hersch, Ben (Chris) Bierstetel, Paul (Kathy) Bierstetel, Bob (Susie) Bierstetel, Al (Jan) Bierstetel, and Jim (Jane) Bierstetel; and many nieces and nephews.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Darrel Kempf at 10:30 a.m., Friday, November 5, 2021 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Pewamo. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 2-8 p.m. with a rosary being prayed at 1:30 p.m. at the St. Mary’s Funeral Chapel, 210 N. Westphalia Street, Westphalia.
