Wilma Irene Schmitz, age 89, of Westphalia, loving mother, adoring grandmother and great grandmother, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, February 18, 2023. She was born on June 2, 1933, the daughter of Leo and Theresa (Fox) Spitzley. Wilma was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Westphalia. She was a caterer for many years with Campbell Catering, enjoyed crocheting, baking and loved all children. Wilma was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond “Rip” Schmitz; granddaughters, Rebecca Badder and April Southwell; great-granddaughter, Gloria Abbey; son-in-law, Gary Ballard and many members of the Spitzley and Schmitz families. Surviving are her children, Susan Ballard, Raymond “Skip” (Cindy Terpening) Schmitz, Marie (Bob) Badder, Connie (Jim) Southwell, Tony (Martha) Schmitz, Craig Schmitz, Carl (Pam) Schmitz, Denise (Mark) Droste, Dennis (Lucinda) Schmitz, and Stephanie (Tom) Morgan; 32 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; brothers, Philip Spitzley and Alvin (Rosemary) Spitzley; sister-in-law, JoAnn Spitzley; many nieces and nephews. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Eric Weber at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, February 23, 2023 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Westphalia. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2-8 p.m., with the family being present from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the St. Mary’s Funeral Chapel, 210 N.
