After over a year of research and planning, Michael A. Lehman chose Portland, his hometown as the site for his new endeavor. Being born and raised in this community in Ionia County, he felt that this was the most logical decision. With much hard work and dedication, the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home officially opened for business on March 22, 1999 at 1301 East Grand River Avenue. In the year 2000, Keith and Rosemary Neller joined the firm, bringing with them over 85 years of tradition and service to Portland and its surrounding areas. After over three years and tremendous growth, the funeral home outgrew its Grand River Avenue location and purchased the former Neller Funeral Home building located at 210 East Bridge Street in downtown Portland in June of 2002. Also in that same year, our growth continued and took us to the City of Ionia, with the purchase of the Cook Funeral Home. In January 2005, Michael purchased his partners interest in the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Homes. From the beginning, our motto was and is "Our Family Serving Yours" because of the commitment to the communities in which we serve. We truly believe in this statement and this is what drives us to serve you and your family with a quality of service, affordable prices, and commitment of excellence.
